Join us at the 2020 Global Good Awards ceremony, whether you’re a ‘shortlister’ or not, for a night dedicated to celebrating excellence in social impact and sustainability, a ceremony you won’t fall asleep sitting through – and a truly sustainable evening.
An event for all…
We strongly believe that sharing best practice helps change happen faster. That’s why our events are open to anyone who works in responsible business and sustainability, in order to share what we’ve learned over the last five years.
You won’t have to endure a 3-hour award ceremony in return… Ed Gillespie’s super efficient (and belly laugh inducing) hosting wraps up the official proceedings inside 45 minutes, leaving more time to eat, drink, network, and celebrate! We want all our guests to make most of the evening: making new connections with sustainability leaders, and leaving plenty of time to party too.
Food to delight meat-eater and vegan alike
Everything about this year’s awards ceremony will be eco-friendly: from the food to the dress-code. We’re confident our delicious, fully vegan menu will make your mouth water… And trust us, meat-eaters will NOT be disappointed. Slightly differently to last year’s street-food affair, waited bowl and finger food will be served.
“I’d consider switching if all vegan food tasted like the jackfruit quesadilla! It’s like smoked chicken and it’s delicious.” One judge at last year’s tasting event.
A venue to match our ethos…
This year, we’re returning to the magnificent BMA House in Tavistock Square for the third year. Steeped in history and architectural beauty, this Grade II listed building, designed in 1911 by Sir Edwin Lutyens, has housed the headquarters of the British Medical Association since 1925.
The historic venue perfectly combines elegance and history with state-of-the-art technology and is certified GOLD standard by Green Tourism. Though recently upgraded with high-tech facilities, the versatile spaces retain their unique original features at the same time as reducing their carbon footprint by 69% since 2015. BMA House’s impressive courtyard and garden also provide some surprisingly quiet outdoor space that is rarely found in Central London (and which we hope to take full advantage of, weather permitting).
The Ceremony itself will be held in the Great Hall: a majestic 28ft high room featuring floor to ceiling Corinthian columns, decorated with painted gold leaf, and comfortable theatre-style seating for 300 guests.
Dress code: freshly eco, with a twist
We don’t do the standard glitzy, black-tie dinners. Our dress code is ‘ECO-TIE’. So dress up in your finest fair-fashion. Be it sustainable cotton, upcycled or handed down, we ask those who attend to wear something colourful with a conscience. Most people will be in formal attire, but we don’t mind casual if it’s eco-friendly! We did this for the first time in 2017, and it made the event a very relaxed but well-dressed affair. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed male and female.
If this isn’t enough to whet your appetite for the sustainable event of the year, we don’t know what is! However, if you’re hungry for more, here are a few more credentials:
- BMA House is certified GOLD for Green Tourism
- Their caterers and our joint headline sponsors, CH&CO are the largest contract caterer to receive a 3-star Sustainable Restaurant Association rating.
- 2020 All event material is printed on 100% recycled ‘Revive’ paper, by the only carbon positive printers in the UK, Seacourt.
- The whole event, including delegate travel, will be carbon balanced by the World Land Trust.
- All water usage at the event will be neuralised, calculated by Thames Water.
- There are never any single-use plastics at our events!
- A completely vegan menu, including the wines and beer.
- £10 from every entry will be donated to charity.
On top of all that, there are goodies to be had, though we don’t do the traditional – and in our opinion, unsustainable – goodie bag. Our approach is to select sustainable market stall-style ‘goodies’ available for our guests to choose what they want from a selection. Nothing unwanted will be given away so less waste!
The evening proceedings
18:00: Drinks Reception with delicious vegan finger food buffet featuring sparkling wine, Toast Ale, soft drinks, and wine (all vegan). Weather permitting in the quiet surroundings of the outdoor courtyard. Enjoy classic jazz music from The Vintage Party.
18:50: Guests take their seats for the Awards ceremony in the Great Hall.
19:05: Welcome and opening addresses
19:15: Keynote speaker – TBC
19:40: Ceremony starts
20:20: Food service – vegan delights from around the world with vegan wine and fizz, Toast Ale/lager & soft drinks (cash bar for spirits).
Take an online eco challenge with eco action games, dance away to classic jazz from The Vintage Party, take a rest in the Paper Lounge, meet the chef who designed the first ever all-vegan awards ceremony menu, connect with lots of sustainability and social impact leaders and finish the evening by dipping into our Eco-Goodies Market Stall.
23:00: Carriages (there will be no formal proceedings after the ceremony, allowing for people to depart for transport connections at their leisure)
Single Tickets: £240 + VAT
5+ tickets: 10% discount
Groups of 5 or more will receive premium reserved seating for the ceremony in the Great Hall and will be guided to their seats by a member of the team.
