We’re looking for our next Canon Young Champion!
Every so often, a young individual emerges, fueled by passion and a drive for change, ready to tackle societal or environmental issues head-on. The GGA Canon Young Champion Award seeks to recognise and celebrate these young people, aged between 9 and 25, who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in their communities or on a global scale. Sponsored by Canon EMEA, the category is free to enter and offers a platform for young changemakers to share their stories and inspire others.
We are always keen to acknowledge (and encourage!) the power and potential of youth activism – these people are, after all, the future! Judges honour winners from two age groups, under 17s and under 25s, considering applications from individuals or groups who have collaborated to drive change. Whether it’s advocating for mental health, environmental sustainability, education, or any issue aligned with the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals, this category welcomes entries that showcase impactful campaigns and initiatives.
To enter, participants must submit a compelling narrative of up to 1250 words, accompanied by images, and a video highlighting their journey and impact – we’re looking for a personal and authentic portrayal of the champion’s efforts. Even those under 18 can participate with the support of an adult, ensuring that the voice of the young person remains central to the submission.
“The award gave me the confidence to continue with my efforts, which is so useful when one is confronted by challenges along the way!”
Netra Venkatesh, Canon Young Champion of the Year 2022 (Under 16s)
Winning this award not only validates the hard work and dedication of the entrants, but also provides them with valuable opportunities to further their cause. The prize includes a Canon R50 Content Creator Kit worth nearly £1,000 and a Master Class with a Canon Ambassador, offering resources and mentorship to amplify their message. In addition, finalists will receive recognition and the chance to connect with like-minded individuals during a virtual gathering.
We recently reached out to some of our past winners, and asked them to tell us about their journey since being crowned winners – you can read what they had to day here. We’ve had past winners present TEDx talks, gain work with prestigious organisations, and aid them in gaining places at top universities!
If you are, or know, someone with a compelling story and brilliant initiative, we want to hear about it! The deadline for submissions is 3 May 2024, and we’re already excitedly awaiting the stories of the next generation of changemakers! Click here to read the full details on how to enter.
