The Trampery
The Trampery is a London-based specialist in workspace, housing and neighbourhoods for creative businesses and entrepreneurs. It’s constituted as a social enterprise with all profits to support its community. Since its inception eight years ago founding Tech City’s first startup workspace, The Trampery has cultivated an ecosystem of eight acclaimed shared workspaces and sector-focused facilities across London. More than 500 entrepreneurs, innovators and creative businesses have called The Trampery home. Our partners include the Barbican, Peabody and London & Partners, and The Trampery’s patron is HRH the Duke of York.
In 2016 The Trampery undertook its first urban planning project, master-planning a new innovation district for the city of Oslo by appointment of the Norwegian government. Now we are building on these past successes and everything we’ve learnt so far as we make a strategic shift towards broader “innovation neighbourhoods” combining housing, workspace and lifestyle facilities. Construction on the first such neighbourhood is currently underway at Fish Island Village, a six-acre site in Hackney Wick due to open in 2019.
Our structure as a social enterprise fundamentally means we exist to provide the greatest possible benefit for society, not to make as much money as possible. There are three aspects to this:
- We help entrepreneurs and creative professionals realise their ambitions by providing workspaces, housing and learning programmes
- We promote an ethos of mutual support and active citizenship throughout the entrepreneur community
- We support entrepreneurship in deprived communities as a weapon against poverty
