Spring clean for Polegate pathway
More than six giant bags of litter were cleared from one of Polegate’s pedestrian routes to its train station during a recent community spring clean in East Sussex.
Karen Sutton, founder and CEO of the Global Good Awards, members of the Polegate Plodders running club and Angela Snell, local councillor and mayor of Polegate, were among the 50-strong team of #LitterHeroes at different sites across the town, taking part in the Keep Britain Tidy ‘Great British Spring Clean’ event.
Armed with litter pickers, Karen’s group covered a pedestrian path to the local railway station, much used by the town’s commuters. Items cleared on the day included a multitude of glass bottles, sweet wrappers, balloons, dog waste sacks, plastic bottles and even a discarded microwave!
Wealden Council supported the collection and recovered all the waste delivered by the litter pickers to the town hall.
Karen commented: “Events like this are happening all over the country up until 23 April to tackle the problem of litter blighting our urban and rural landscapes. They are a great way to highlight the problem and to help clear away some of the litter. I’d urge everyone to do their bit!”
