The Life of a Paper Dress
Karen’s dress for the 2018 Global Good Awards was definitely a conversation starter during the event. The incredible dress was made from 100% recycled and Carbon Balanced paper by Revive, headline sponsor of the Awards since 2017.
For Karen, the dress represented the values and ideology of the Global Good Awards, “as the most recycled material, I wanted to highlight the versatility of paper, by using our sponsors’ 100% recycled and Carbon Balanced paper to make my dress.”
The dress was a topic of conversation during the award ceremony and an innovative way of raising awareness around the issue of sustainability, an important outcome given the focus of the Global Good Awards. Karen wasn’t the only one person to get dressed up though. One of the people attending the Global Good Awards even turned up in a jacket made from Ribena cartons!
Given the work that went into creating the dress and the fact that it was created as a way of raising awareness around sustainability, we wanted to find a suitable place to showcase the piece. Fittingly an opportunity to donate the dress and raise money for charity presented itself.
“After our event, I discovered that Binti International was running a charity fashion show, so donated it to their cause. I’m delighted to say that Denmaur (who manufacturer the Revive brand) won auction and to see the dress in its rightful home in their office reception,” said Karen
Danny Doogan, Sustainability Manager at Denmaur, added, “What an incredible talking point Karen’s Revive paper dress was at this years’ awards, and it’s continued to spark positive conversations ever since. After we won the dress in a silent auction, with £250 being donated to Binti International, it has become a centrepiece in our office reception.”
Karen concluded “Now I just need to find something even more innovative to wear for 2019… any ideas welcome!”
