Vantastic! Hubbub Proud to be a Global Good Award Winner
Hubbub’s team of solutionists create campaigns to inspire change through practical action for the sake of people and the planet.
In September 2020, Hubbub launched a pilot scheme in Milton Keynes for a new campaign to tackle food waste.
Food Connect is a zero-emissions service that redistributes perfectly edible but surplus food from local businesses to those in the community who need it most.
Volunteers collect food from retailers and take it to Hubbub’s community fridge network in their fleet of e-cargo bikes and e-van. Not only are they diverting food from waste and providing for vulnerable households, Hubbub achieves all this with zero emissions!
In Food Connect’s pilot, Hubbub saved 260,000 meals worth of food (110 tonnes!) from going to waste which avoided 36 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. And the use of EVs prevented 1.7 tonnes of transport emissions.
During the first lockdown, Hubbub went on to deliver over 2000 food parcels to local residents who were self-isolating. It’s no surprise Hubbub won the bronze Global Good Award for being COVID Crisis Champions in the small organisations category this year.
Hubbub hopes to expand the scheme so look out for our logo on a Food Connect van in a community near you.
