Good Company; for coffee and beer lovers with a conscience (or anyone who enjoys a decent brew!)
Global Good founder, Karen, went to investigate the collaboration between Toast Ale and Change Please – the partnership that marries excellent coffee with fine ales. Purely in the name of research, of course….!

Nestled behind the busy Euston Road in the contrasting quiet of Regent’s Place is a cafe and tap room with a difference – Good Company – a partnership made in ‘coffee and beer’ heaven. After hearing about it, I decided to base myself there for a day in London to see what it was all about; in short, I absolutely loved it! A brilliant atmosphere, with friendly and chatty staff (and let’s not forget that all the furniture is preloved and has been repurposed!).
Good Company is a collaboration between two social enterprises that I very much admire, and have been following on their impressive journeys; they are Toast Ale and Change Please. These two have come together to launch Good Company, a café-cum-tap-room that continues to support their efforts to reduce both food waste and homelessness.
Toast Ale – previous winners of the GGA ‘Best Eco-focused Small Enterprise‘ category – officially launched in 2016. Their mission “is to brew great beers and spread big ideas that can change the world, and lead a brewing movement to eliminate bread waste and fix the food system”. They do this by using bread that would otherwise go to waste; to date, they have rescued over 3 million slices, and also produced over 3 million pints of beer!
Change Please was founded by Cemel Ezel in 2015, and trains homeless people to be baristas, while also giving them a living wage, accommodation and security. They started life with a few baristas and a coffee cart in Covent Garden, but now sell coffee online, and partner with the likes of Virgin, providing refreshments on trains. 100% of profit goes to fight homelessness, and they now have a presence in eight countries.
Good Company is a café by day, and bar by night – and punters can drink safe in the knowledge that they’re contributing to the great work of these two organisations. The space will also be used for barista training, and to host events and film screening focusing on sustainability. They also offer private hire in the evenings. Cheers 🍻
