A Judging First for the Global Good Awards
We are delighted to announce a ‘first’ for the Global Good Awards. We have teamed up with the Diana Award to invite one of their Legacy Award winners to join our judging panel for the Canon Young Champion of the Year Award.
In support of the Diana Award’s Future Forward campaign, we welcome Ally Zlatar, our youngest ever judge at 24 years old, to the Global Good community.
The Starving Artist
Having struggled with anorexia Ally wanted to raise awareness of eating disorders, body dysmorphia and illness through the power of art.
Ally created ‘The Starving Artist’, a global outreach initiative and publication covering artistic research and reflection from over 25 international artists. The publication also provided financial aid and educational resources around eating disorders and can be found in over 30 universities worldwide.
Ally collaborates with eating disorder awareness groups across the UK and has worked directly with mental health organisations such as ‘Together! Disability’ Safeline UK and London Eating Disorder Conference. Ally states she is an individual who is both an artist and suffers from an eating disorder but uses her struggles to help others.
Ally’s support has been invaluable not just for helping people understand how the artistic voice can make change but, also helps people directly help recover from their eating disorders. Ally works incredibly hard, balancing a diversity of art activism initiatives, full time employment and her doctoral studies.
In 2020, Ally’s work was included in over 15 exhibitions and residencies, with her exhibition ‘One Body, My Body, No Body’ debuting in cities such as London, Glasgow, Toronto and Amsterdam.
About joining our judging panel, Ally said:
“I have been able to work across several different sectors such as the arts, education, medical, policy and have developed a depth of understanding on what it takes to make an impact in these areas. Additionally, I have been working on activism campaigns for over 10 years. Although young, I have gained experience exploring a breadth of different themes ranging from environmentalism all the way to LGBTQ+ representation. Having the opportunity to judge The Global Goods Award would be a great way to engage with talented young individuals and be able to help elevate these key stars who are making a difference.”
Ally already has experience as a judge. These include community awards in Glasgow, mental health competition in Fiji, Arts for Rights in India and several small art competitions in the UK. She believes it is important not only to get your voice heard, but to also champion others. Read more about Ally’s achievements in her LinkedIn profile.
Ally will join the judging panel for The Canon Young Champion of the Year Award in May after entries close for this year’s Global Good Awards on 29 April. It is one of our most popular awards. Click here for more information and how to enter.
